Egypt states ‘no military solutions’ to Israel-Iran predicament
A presidential spokesperson stated that Sisi strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing military actions, describing them as a serious threat to Middle East security and stability during a period already marked by multiple regional crises. Earlier, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the situation in Iran, denouncing the rapid escalation of hostilities. The ministry reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the UN Charter and international law, calling for respect for state sovereignty.
The recent conflict ignited on June 13, when Israeli airstrikes targeted Iranian strategic sites, including the uranium enrichment facility at Natanz, alongside covert operations against senior military figures and nuclear scientists near Tehran. In retaliation, Iran launched numerous ballistic missiles into Israeli territory. The exchange of missile strikes has continued, forcing civilians to seek shelter.
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump announced a major bombing campaign by US forces on three Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan—claiming they were “completely and totally obliterated.”
Several African governments have condemned the escalation. South Africa’s Presidency expressed hope that Trump and the US government would leverage their influence to encourage dialogue and called on all parties to support UN-led peaceful negotiations. Similarly, Algeria’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf reiterated his country’s strong condemnation of Israel’s attacks during a call with Iran’s Abbas Araghchi, urging the UN Security Council to uphold international law and intervene.
